Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh
I am not complicated in the sense that what you see is what you get with me. I say what I mean and I mean what I say. I grew up in Las Vegas and I have seen a lot of things. Things uplifting to the human condition and things that rip at the soul like a slavering beast clawing its release from a trap. As a result, I have a wide range of experiences from which I draw upon; however, the less dramatic side of me has in recent years honed skills to specialize in certain genres of writing. I am currently finishing up on my bachelor of arts at UNLV, and at present, I hold an associate’s degree in journalism, as well as a general associate’s degree. My future plans include an MFA in creative writing. I am a member of the Alpha Delta chapter of Sigma Chi Eta, which is a national communication honor society, and I have been recognized by the Alliance of Professionals of African Heritage at UNLV for outstanding academic achievement.

I suppose personal, academic statistics don’t say much about who I am. My mother used to tell me from a very young age that I was a cynical old soul. Obviously, if you’re reading my blog, you can tell she was right! That doesn’t necessarily make me a pessimist, but you won’t ever see me bouncing down the street freely distributing warm, fuzzy feelings. I like to look at the world and scoff before I take my place. Reining in the “objective” aspect of journalism was foreign for me, but “the blogging experience” affords me the opportunity to relate to the world in my own voice. Journalism is a wonderful opportunity to exercise writing skills and get paid at the same time! I look forward to making contributions, but not just there. My goal for the not-so-distant future is to be a novelist. I began writing poetry in grade school (won awards), moved on to love letters (what teen doesn’t write them?) and short stories, and now journalism and fiction. I hope for all of my efforts to culminate with the “Great American Natalie”…I mean novel : D. Much to do with me: The best ways to see me are through music, art and writing.
