Vegas Scores a Goal

Las Vegas hockey fans can “cross-check” this exciting arrival off their sports list. A Vegas hockey team expansion is finally being added to the NHL! The announcement came about 4 months after Bill Foley, a lifetime hockey fan and new owner of the team, began a “Vegas Wants Hockey” campaign in February to bring a team to the city. The campaign included reaching a goal of season ticket deposits as well as spreading word and gathering support through social media. Check out what he has to say now that his endeavors have paid off: https://www.vegasishockey.com/news-detail?recordNum=87

With over 15,000 season ticket deposits already sold, fans are definitely looking forward to the season to come. According to the Review-Journal, over 1,000 of the tickets sold following the official announcement of the team last week. The draft isn’t set to take place until next year, however people are still getting excited about what the team holds for the city. The NHL team will be the first major professional sports team for Vegas, which is uniting all hockey and sports fans alike.

The recently opened T-Mobile Arena will hold all of these fans as they gather to watch the team during home games when the season begins in 2017. It’s located near the Monte Carlo and New York New York Hotel, and can hold up to 17,500 fans. If you are interested in checking out full and partial season ticket prices or if you’re interested in purchasing them, check them out here. The site also has a seating map, shown below, that shows which areas are available and which are sold out.

After talks of the Raiders possibly coming to Vegas and the failure of many other attempts of sports teams, fans couldn’t be happier that we finally get to call our city the home of a professional sports team. The team looks promising for the city’s economy as well as it does in helping create a sense of community in a city that never seems to slow down. With thousands of deposits made, Foley’s persistence with the bid, and the city being more than ready to have its first major professional sports team, the NHL couldn’t pass down the opportunity. With Las Vegas getting an NHL team, it will only bring in more people and more excitement to the city. Tourists and locals will have the chance the go to games and enjoy Toshiba Plaza for years to come. Your really captures just how many people have already bought season tickets and what’s available to the public for attending future hockey games. Who knows, we just might bring in the Raiders and that means even more money. Your podcast is very informing and the music really flows well with your podcast!

It is very professional and I like how you brought in another person to get their input on the new hockey team.

    Hi Hayley,
I’m so excited for us to get a professional hockey team! I heard rumors of the team being called the Black Knights, but I think Neon Knights would be way cooler and more Vegas-y.
I still need to make a trip to the T-Mobile Arena and the surrounding plaza area, because I hear it’s amazing.
Your post in very informative and your podcast is a good supplement to it.

I am so excited about Vegas getting a hockey team! It’s been a long time coming and I hope this begins a trend of other professional teams coming to the city. While I don’t think hockey is the best sport to bring to Vegas as it’s more popular on the east coast, I think it’ll bring in more excitement and city unity. Great job of hitting all the major points in your post!

Vegas having a hockey team will be good for the city. While I can see the team having some bumps in the road as far as selling out tickets all the time goes, I think it’ll bring in enough revenue overall to stick around longer than other sports teams have. I’m excited to see where it goes, and I may just have to check out a game myself even though I’m generally not a huge sports fan.
