With the expansion of new technology, journalists are at a crossroad in the work place. Digital interactive media such as social networking sites (linkedin, twitter, and facebook), and blogging sites (youtube, ebaumsworld, etc.), are forcing journalist with the decision of adapting new skills that will allow them to successfully reach a larger audience that’s continuously growing. Modern-age journalist will have to not only be polished in traditional investigative reporting, writing and broadcast journalism. Now with the move toward digital mediums, journalist must learn new skills that will allow them to run an entire web or blog site. In an article called, “It’s hard out there for a 21st-century future journalist of tomorrow” by Renay San Miguel of Technewsworld.com, San Miguel highlights several skills required for a journalist to be hired. Some new skills that pertain to the interactive media aspect of journalism are, have basic knowledge of HTML or XML and of the software Ellington, know how to put together a good mix of photo galleries, news, sports and entertainment content, experience producing a complex website, familiarity with Photoshop, content management systems, twitter, facebook and other new Web tools and products (San Miguel, p.6).
