Looking pretty doesn’t always have to cost a pretty penny either.

Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas—the land where the only thing hotter than the 116 degree weather is the people. Vegas tourists and natives know that just because the weather is hot doesn’t mean that you can’t be too.

I know, the last thing you want to do when it’s hot as all get out, outside, is put on layers and layers of clothing. The good news for you is that layers are so last year. This summer pick bold prints, statement jewelry and casual footwear to keep your clothing minimal but your style maximal.

For those who feel they are ill-equipped to pick out a fashionable, cool outfit, magazines like Glamour, Vogue and Cosmopolitan are constantly upload “hot finds” onto their social media pages and websites. If you plan on buying some of the products their magazines are featuring, your best bet for getting a deal is grabbing a hard copy magazine next time you’re at the grocery store. They usually load the pages of their magazines up with tons of coupons.

If browsing the internet for hours looking at outfits is not your cup of tea then head on down to your closest mall, find a mannequin you like then tell a sales associate, “I want that.” As an ex-retail employee, I can safely tell you that we love selling the clothes off of our mannequins; it tells us that we are dressing our mannequins right. Plus, there’s nothing more exciting than a customer who knows exactly what they want.

An important thing to keep in mind when shopping for clothes this summer, is that your clothes can be used as a protective barrier against the heat. Contrary to popular belief, white does not help you stay cool in the heat, black does. White reflects the sun’s rays but it also reflects your own body heat. So, when you wear white, you are basically putting on a rotisserie bag and cooking in your cute white pants. Black clothing absorbs the sun’s heat as well as your body’s, keeping your body temperature down.

Stay looking cool, but most importantly stay cool this summer, Las Vegas.
