blog-readersBlogging has been around for a while, but it seems like many journalists are not so familiar with the blogging world.

Although blogging may seem complicated and time consuming, blogging is a great way to get more personal with readers. It’s also a way for journalists to develop professional relationships with their readers.

WordPress is an excellent resource that allows anyone to create their own website for free. WordPress is very easy to use, especially for beginners. Personally, I was new to the blogging word and when I started using this site I was as lost like a puppy roaming the streets, but once I started clicking around and watching WordPress tutorials I got the hang of everything very quickly. With over 200 customizable themes to choose from, users are also free to design their website to their liking. WordPress also allows users to link all their social media sites to their blog so it is a one stop shop for readers. Oh and did I mention WordPress is free!? ;)

Many journalists are not up-to-date with how to blog and how to customize their own site.  So, if you are new to the blogging world and are just setting up a WordPress account, I would recommend watching my video about the basics of WordPress down below.

If you need a little more help, I recommend reading “Journalists’ Toolkit” by Mindy McAdams. This article tells you everything you need to know about WordPress and more. There are also so many other tutorials out on YouTube and the Internet that make everything so much easier.

WordPress is a great tool for journalists to take advantage of. My advice to new bloggers is to design a site that says something about both you and your work, be consistent with blog posts, and do not be intimidated by the blogging world because once you get used to it and gain a following, you will not regret it.
