Social media is an asset to any journalist. The important thing to remember is to always be professional. Facebook and twitter can be used for networking . Social media presents an amazing opportunity that wasn’t available before. Many businesses are now using Facebook and promoting themselves.
Facebook and twitter can get you connected with the right audience. You may not be able to get someones phone number or email address but you can follow them on twitter or Facebook which is actually better because now you know what they are doing and where they are.
When writing on twitter it is important to get your point across very briefly. You only have 143 characters to grab your readers attention. Including links to maybe a blog or website is always a good idea. Facebook and or twitter makes you approachable and people see you as someone they can conversate with or someone they know. People will be more open to giving feedback. You can reach people on a wide scale. People that you may not have otherwise gotten in touch with like someone from a different region.
Facebook and twitter allow journalist to stay current. no more do we have to have out-dated information. If a journalist has a story and needs to speak with someone and isn’t sure where to start, all they have to do is pull up that persons Facebook or twitter.
Information is being update every minute ,the important thing to rember is everyone is always watching. Although social media has increased accuracy of information some things can be false. Journalist should always double check the information received through social media. Just because people are posting it doesn’t mean it is valid. If a journalist were to post something invalid his or her credibility could be in jeopardy. So whether in person or online,always be mindful of what you say or at least be able to back it up.
