heartI believe there are three simple things in life that will help you live a healthier life; one eating healthy and two exercising, and three adding in supplements to your diet such as a multivitaminfitness or fish oil. These are the obvious. However, some people may not realize the importance or the reality of following through with eating healthy and exercising.

When I say exercise I do not mean bodybuilding exercise. Exercise can range from walking dogs to working out vigorously in the gym. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention adults need to do one of these options:

  • 2 hours and 30 minutes (150) of moderate-intensity aerobic activity (i.e., brisk walking) every week and muscle-strengthening activities on 2 or more days a week that works all major muscles groups (legs, hips, back abdomen, chest, shoulders, and arms).
  • 1 hour and 15 minutes (75 minutes) of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity (i.e., jogging or running) every week and muscle-strengthening activities on 2 or more days a week that works all major muscles groups (legs, hips, back, abdomen, chest, shoulder, and arms).
  • An equivalent mix of moderate- and vigorous-intensity aerobic activity and muscle-strengthening activities on 2 or more days a week that work all major muscles groups (legs, hips, back abdomen, chest, shoulders, and arms).

MenEating healthy does not mean you have to eat “dull and boring” food. You do not need to sacrifice everything delicious (pizza, pasta…etc). Some people think that you have to completely cut out sweets, bread, and pasta. This is not the case because eating in moderation will help solve the problem. However, I believe if you are craving sweets just indulge! I know if I indulge that one time it stops me from eating everything else until I fulfill my craving. Having dessert after a dinner is okay (but not going back for seconds and thirds)!
