It’s no secret that living in the Las Vegas desert the heat levels in the valley can elevate to dangerously high even record-breaking temperatures. Health experts and Safety Administrations, like OSHA; urge people to take special percussion when dealing heat and humidity.
There are many processions that people can take to protect themselves and loved one’s from the heat and other possible repercussions that are caused by heat or humidity, such as; heat strokes, skin cancer, dark spots, and even sickness.
If it’s possible, doctors recommend staying indoors during the hot summer months, however if you must go outside they encourage you to do the most strenuous work or errands either early in the morning or later in the evening. It is particularly dangerous if you are out in the heat between 11am-3pm, as that is the part of the part of the day when the sun is strongest.
One of the most important things to do begins as soon as you start your day, even before you leave your house, which is sunscreen! I cannot stress enough how important it is to protect your skin from the intense UV rays from the sun, that your face, and body is exposed to most of the day. Sunscreen can protect your skin from aging, sunspots, discoloration and cancer.
It is also extremely important to keep yourself hydrated constantly. Water is great, but other beverages that contain electrolytes, such as sports drinks; could help prevent dehydration. Just make sure to stay away from caffeinated beverages that contain sugar. Those kind of drink will only make you even more dehydrated. You can never drink enough fluids, especially in the Las Vegas summer heat.
